Position Qualifications:
The Director of Quality Assurance for H-E-B Manufacturing is responsible for ensuring food safety and quality programs that cover 14 manufacturing facilities located in San Antonio, Houston, and Corpus Christi, Texas.
In this role, you will report to the Vice President of Quality Assurance for H-E-B and will be responsible to assist the of Chief Supply Chain Officer in leading the Manufacturing Quality Assurance organization to continuously improve our quality standards and programs which assure our manufactured products meet customers’ and H-E-B’s expectations to make Own Brand the most compelling and distinctive brand.
Manufacturing QA provides Division support in four critical areas:
- Food and Product Safety
- Quality Control and Quality Assurance
- Training and Education of Division Partners and Leadership Teams
- Leadership of Key Division Initiatives

Assist in the delivery of annual operational processes for food quality and food safety at the Plant Operational level.
Define, develop and implement Digital Transformation plans to drive OEE through Quality defects reduction, waste elimination, and labor reduction in our Operations. Ensure that new software systems operate within the framework of the Quality Management System and streamline and enhance our food safety and food quality programs.

Position Qualifications:
- MS or BS Degree in Food Science or similar fields.
- Experience - 8 years or more experience in various ascending leadership roles associated with or directly managing Food Safety and Quality.
- Food manufacturing industry experience.
- Experience in developing food safety and quality programs and initiatives to meet evolving requirements and customer expectations.
- Experience managing TDSHS, USDA, FDA and NOM (Mexico Export) compliance.
- Experience Designing and Managing Environmental Monitoring, Master Sanitation, HACCP, VACCP and TACCP programs for existing and new food manufacturing facilities.
- ASQ Certified Engineer and Auditor preferre
- GFSI SQF or BRC expertise (or similar scheme).
- Experience with evaluating and managing food safety programs /software and leading efforts to select and implement new programs.
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment where change and growth are part of the culture.
- Ability to influence and drive programs and projects in a highly collaborative culture.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Essential Functions / Process Responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned as necessary
- Act as an advisor to the Chief Supply Chain Officer and the Vice President of Quality Assurance in all activities as defined; recognized as an effective leader of people, programs and QA within H-E-B and appropriate external organizations.
- Supervises three or more Senior QA Managers directly and indirectly supervises Quality Assurance Managers and Plant QA Team Leaders.
- Responsible for Quality Management System and related outcomes in multiple manufacturing and distribution operations.
- Assist in the development and deployment of safety and quality data requirements for ERP to eliminate paper-based quality, COAs, CAPA and traceability from the plant floor.
- Direct and oversee the vendor product safety assessment process and vendor standards to mitigate food safety and quality risks. Assists in the definition, selection, deployment, and sustainment of vendor quality management software.
- Ensure audits are performed. Works with Operations Directors, Director of Engineering and other executive team members to ensure effective preventive & emergency maintenance activities.
- Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies, academia and professional organizations.
- Identify process improvement opportunities in conjunction with Leaders from other departments.
- Provide input and recommendations on significant policy changes to ensure regulatory compliance and QA principles are properly aligned.
- Ensure successful execution of annual tactical plans by continuously assessing performance metrics within all assigned business areas.
- Responsible for budgeting/expense control for Quality Assurance/Control functions including, but not limited to, QA supplies, labor and other accounts as assigned.
- Assist in management of recall and claims programs working with divisions, sourcing, regulatory agencies, and legal counsel.
