Job Title: Building Secretary (Floater Position)
Department: Middle School and High School
Reports to: Building Principals and/or Superintendent and Designee
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Length of Contract: 185 days unless otherwise specified. Daily schedule will vary depending on length of contract and areas of coverage, but will include a 30 minute lunch and two 15 minute breaks.
Job Summary: The incumbent is responsible for providing administrative support and assistance to the school, extending good public relations with students, staff, parents and other community members. This job requires the use of tact, initiative and independent judgment in handling calls, dealing with difficult complaints, requests for assistance, information or service to the public. The work requires coordination, administration and monitoring of specialized and confidential activities, projects and tasks with minimal supervision.
Essential Duties:
Help maintain a positive school image by properly hosting all visitors.
Operate standard office machines and perform general school related secretarial duties.
Update the computerized student data in eSchool as required.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.
Ability to utilize common sense understanding in order to carry out written, oral or diagrammed instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving several known variables in situations of a routine nature.
Exhibits interpersonal and collaboration skills to work as an effective team member.
Maintains confidential student files and records related to grades and test results.
Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
Education: High School Diploma required; Associate’s degree or higher is preferred
Other Expectations:
Works in an office environment with varying levels of noise during the day.
Faces constant interruptions. Needs to utilize time management strategies.
Must be able to multi-task. Must be able to work under pressure and able to prioritize tasks.
Good general health, clean in attire and professional in appearance.
Ability to be punctual and maintain regular attendance.
