Job Title: Middle School Principal
Department: Building Administration
Reports to: Asst. Superintendent
Directly Supervises: Certified and Classified staff on the building roster
FLSA: Exempt
Length of Contract: 240 days
Job Summary: The building principal will oversee the daily management of the school and office; provide timely and constructive observations and evaluations of educators following the protocol set by the district; recommend hiring of certified and classified instructional staff in the building; oversee, participate in the hiring of and evaluate the performance of other classified employees assigned to the building; provide instructional leadership for the school including educational programming, administration budgetary planning, discipline and counseling services.
Essential Duties: • Prepares the master schedule and assigns staff • Recruits, checks references, convenes interview team and leads interviews of staff openings and recommends candidates for employment • Supervises licensed staff, including the review of lesson planning and implementation of instruction-follows district protocol for observations • Supervises classified staff, including work direction, preparation of schedules and evaluations with feedback • Enforces disciplinary policies and procedures with students • Facilitates opportunities to connect with students by being visible at arrival and dismissal, appearing at school functions, and meeting with students • Participates in parent meetings and conferences- acts as intermediary between teacher and students/parents as needed • Presides over all staff meetings • Ensures that necessary maintenance and repairs to school property are performed • Oversees the requests and allocation of supplies to staff • Represents the school in community activities and meetings • Collaborates with other principals and educators throughout the district on curriculum and policy decisions that affect all buildings
Other Duties: Other duties as assigned by superintendent and/or assistant superintendent
Qualifications: Building Administrator’s Licensure in the State of Arkansas, Minimum of 5 years experience as a certified teacher; experience in building administration preferred
Knowledge and Skills Required: knowledge of curriculum trends as well as state requirements; knowledge of how to build a budget and assess building and staff needs; knowledge of district administrative policies and procedures, school law, and state rules and regulations including special education and due process; fundamentals of supervision and management; understanding of coaching, training, and evaluation of certified and classified staff
Education: Minimum of Master’s degree leading to Building Administrator licensure in Arkansas
Other Expectations: Willing to work additional hours; willing to meet with and lead parent conferences; willing to travel as needed for conferences and workshops; willing to attend and supervise extracurricular activities; successful completion of pre-employment background checks; appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times around students, staff, and the general public.
