POSITION SUMMARY:
The caregiver job duties include performing the (ADL) Activities of Daily Living: bathing, dressing, meals, toileting and continence care. (IADL) Instrumental Activities of Daily Living: housekeeping, laundry, escorts to meals and activities, supervision of self medications, cueing and reminders of activities and safety checks and transfers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reports and documents all observations on appropriate forms per shift.
- Ensures the safety and security needs of the residents. Maintains a neat, clean environment for the residents.
- Assist the residents with exercises, ambulating and transfer activities per plan of care.
- Performs routine household services essential to resident care at home, including: meal preparation, laundry, housecleaning, making of bed and emptying of trash as assigned, etc.
- Cue daily medications as scheduled. May include: hand over hand guidance with eye drops/ointments and skin patches. For diabetic residents; provide reminders on the steps to self inject insulin.
- Assists with personal care activities including bathing, oral hygiene, dressing, toileting and grooming. Checks on residents in the afternoon before leaving for the day.
- Identifies resident problems/changes and promptly reports pertinent information to the (ALSA) nurse responsible for client care.
- Effectively participates in the STAR system program.
- Takes vital signs and weight as directed by nurse and records accordingly.
- Is able to respond to redirection as needed. Can provide solutions to any issues in performance.
- Follows through on assignments during shortages; shifts priorities when necessary.
- Uses proper safety techniques and complies with all organizational safety procedures.
Qualifications
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Sits, stands, walks, bends and lifts as part of a normal workday.
Possible exposure to infections.
Must be able to move at least 10 lbs. unassisted
Physically able to bend, reach and work in small areas
Physically able to push and pull equipment and furnishings
Physically able to stand and wok for long periods.
PERSONNEL SPECIFICATIONS:
- Successful completion of a training and evaluation program in accordance with Section 19-13-D8t (1), Section 19-13-D69 (d)(2) or Section 19-13-D83 (b) of the regulation of Connection State Agencies.
- Successful completion, prior to providing any direct care service, of ten (10) hours of orientation provided by the Supervisor or licensed nurse designated by the supervisor.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Minimum of (2) years experience working in an elderly care environment assisting with their living needs.
