POSITION SUMMARY:
The Occupational Therapist (OT) independently works within the CT Behavioral Health Hospital to evaluate patients' level of function and determines, develops, and implements individualized treatment goals and plans in alignment with the patient/caregiver goals. The OT provides occupational therapy program planning, implementation, related documentation, and communication. The OT will collaborate with all team members to enhance our patient’s well being.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs in all treatments and modalities for patient’s rehab. Delegates patient care responsibilities to Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant when appropriate.
- Provides updated care plan notes to meetings. Attends conferences as assigned. Updates care plans on a weekly basis.

Gives professional input for discharge planning. Obtains medically necessary equipment prior to discharge.

Appropriately utilizes various types of therapeutic interventions including ADL, perceptual exercise, cognitive re-training, sensory integration.

Coordinates and participates in all activities to promote our patients well being and goals returning the patient to baseline or improving heir functional and mental status. Educates our patients and families toward all patient centered goals.

Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication on all levels of patient care with therapists, IDT members, and family. Communicates with patients and staff in a courteous, respectful, and supportive manner.

Manages and guides Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) in regard to responsibilities and behaviors.

Documents in a timely manner according to facility policies including but not limited to: progress notes, interdisciplinary notes, care plans, discharge notes.

Responsible for care and economical use of equipment and supplies. Reports any equipment problems to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.

Transports patients to and from department.
Qualifications
PERSONNEL SPECIFICATIONS:
- Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice as a OT in the State of Connecticut.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a program for Occupational Therapist required.
- Prior experience in healthcare setting required.
- Supervisory experience required.
- Must be able to lift patients/residents, medical equipment, supplies, etc., >50 lbs.
- Basic Life Support preferred or within 6 months
