The Hebron Board of Education has a School Psychologist opening at Hebron Elementary School for the 2025-2026 school year.

Qualifications:
Must have a Master’s Degree plus Sixth Year Certificate in School Psychology from an accredited college or university; must hold valid Connecticut School Psychologist certification (070).

Position Summary:
Facilitates the learning process through effective application of diagnostic, counseling, teaching and consultation skills.

General:
The School Psychologist works under the direction and supervision of the Principal and Director of Educational Services.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates behavior on the basis of clinical observations, interviews with students, teachers, other school staff and parents, reports of other professionals, review of school records and test results;
  • Analyzes the psycho-educational strengths and needs of individual child;
  • Provides educational and personal recommendations based upon psycho-educational evaluations of individual needs according to developmentally appropriate standards;
  • Interprets findings to teachers to assist them in working effectively and sensitively with students with special needs in order to strengthen academic progress;
  • Advises and counsels parents in order to facilitate the educational progress of their children;
  • Plans and implements non-biased assessment practices;
  • As requested, assists in identification of students at risk and participates in the development of treatment strategies;
  • Refers children to other professionals as appropriate;
  • Receives and processes referrals from school personnel, community agencies and families through the PPT process;
  • Refers to the PPT those students whose problems appear to significantly interfere with school performance;
  • Works with the school team to coordinate Planning and Placement Team meetings;
  • Understands and facilitates compliance with all laws, procedures, and requirements related to the PPT process;
  • Maintains records, minutes, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and related paperwork as required by law and Pupil Personnel Services department procedures;
  • Counsels students as mandated through the PPT process;
  • Monitors implementation of programs recommended by the PPT as assigned;
  • Helps facilitate development of plans for individualizing educational programs for students;
  • Serves on the Student Support Team as required;
  • Regularly uses technology to assist in accomplishing job responsibilities and meeting school and district goals.
  • Works closely with the Director of Special Education/Pupil Personnel Services to ascertain successful execution of all therapeutic and PPT responsibilities.
  • Consults with staff members to improve the classroom environment according to students’ individual and group needs;
  • Recommends strategies, techniques and materials to enhance instructional improvement for all students;
  • Identifies and assesses the social/emotional needs of students in order to make recommendations to enhance the overall learning environment of the school;
  • Develops and/or implements short-term counseling plans for students referred by school personnel, community agencies, and parents.
  • Maintains appropriate records of service provision;
  • Serves on the Student Assistance Team, Behavior Support Team, and Crisis Team as required;

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Implements Board of Education and school policies and rules governing student life and conduct;
  • Promotes and upholds goals and objectives of the Board of Education and school;
  • Provides for appropriate student and parent advocacy;
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities;
  • Cooperates with colleagues, administrators, and other staff members;
  • Demonstrates an on-going interest in educational concerns and professional growth;
  • Upholds the ethics of the teaching profession and of the profession of school psychology as defined in the code of ethics of the National Association of School Psychologists;
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding personal student and family information;
  • Promotes the educational program in the community;
  • Maintains high standards for personal attendance and punctuality so that student achievement is not adversely impacted;
  • Performs other tasks and responsibilities as delegated by the Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services and/or the Principal.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of assigned grade level curriculum; thorough knowledge of elementary or special education principles, practices and procedures; thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching; thorough knowledge of school rules, regulations and procedures; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, administration, and parents.

Physical Requirements:
Must have the physical ability to execute the full performance of duties for the position, including but not limited to: reaching, some lifting, standing, walking, carrying, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, sitting, and/or crawling.
