What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shelter Advocate Part-time 2nd Friday and Saturday position at Hebron House of Hospitality?
Ensure smooth operation of the homeless shelter, enforce the rules of the shelter while providing support for the guests
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Meet with guests to answer questions; follow progress of guests and their goals
- Help guests access services provided by programs in the community
- Answer and respond to phone calls from guests and others requiring guidance and/or support
- Perform eligibility screening and intakes
- De-escalate situations and settle disagreements
- Monitor and maintain shelter facilities; identify and resolve health and safety hazards; prepare beds/rooms for new guests; stock food and supplies daily
- Clean and organize shelter
- Oversee chores and activities of guests
- Participate in regular meetings with the program/other shelter staff
- Participate in regular on-going training when scheduled
- Perform other duties as assigned by the House Lead or Director of Operations
QUALIFICATIONS
- Reliable and dependable in attendance and in performing job-related tasks
- Ability to follow through with commitments and meet deadlines
- Willing to be flexible with work schedule
- General knowledge of human services, both public and private
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
- Ability to communicate effectively; includes reading, writing, training, listening
- Some physical demands such as lifting up to 10 lbs., ability to climb stairs, light housekeeping, and other tasks as needed.

- 8 hour shift
- Evening shift
- Night shift
- Weekends as needed
