As our Foreman – Projects, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating project-based initiatives within the Underground Mine at the Greens Creek operation. You’ll support critical operational training, facilitate leadership development, and assist in mine infrastructure and interdepartmental projects. This role acting as a liaison with other departments such as Maintenance to support equipment care and cross-functional initiatives.

The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing approximately 515 people. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. Here’s what you can expect in this role:
- Training first. Every hire is provided MSHA training in the first 4 days on the job. We also provide department-level training on not just what to do, but safety, as well.
- Project Variety: You’ll lead a wide range of operational projects underground, including infrastructure improvements, procedural rollouts, and interdepartmental collaborations.
- Leadership Opportunity: You’ll play a key role in developing frontline leaders through coaching, mentoring, and formal leadership training programs.
- Team Development: You’ll support the growth and safety of our workforce by designing and delivering training in mine procedures and best practices.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: You’ll serve as a liaison between departments, particularly with Maintenance, to ensure alignment on shared equipment, project timelines, and execution strategies.
- Hands-On Field Leadership: You’ll maintain a strong presence underground and in project areas, ensuring field-level support, safety compliance, and operational excellence.
- Contractor Interface: You’ll work directly with contractors, ensuring they are trained, oriented, and compliant with Greens Creek safety and operational expectations.
- Safety and Compliance Impact: You’ll lead audits, inspections, and hazard assessments, contributing to a culture of accountability and continuous safety improvement.
- You’ll champion health and safety and environment as the top priority, maintaining safe and efficient operations, leading by personal example, ensuring proper working conditions, and develop effective plans, systems and procedures, to ensure that all employees and contractors perform safely and in compliance with all company policies as well as government regulations and the Health and Safety Management System and Environmental Management Systems.
