Overview of the López Foundation Philanthropy Team
The Philanthropy Team makes grants directly to colleges and universities (or their supporting organizations) and nonprofits that are intentional and strategic in how they support first-generation students on their academic path and provide guidance toward economic opportunity. Our college and university partners are four-year, both public and private, and are located in the five HGLF priority regions. Funding primarily supports undergraduate scholarships and student success services for a cohort of López Scholars, bearing the name of the founders, as well as strategic partnerships with non-profit organizations that support the HGLF mission.
The Student Success Officer will be an integral part of the philanthropy team, working with HGLF’s university partners to ensure López Scholars graduate on time, without debt, and on a path toward economic mobility. Since 2022, López Scholars has grown to 184 Scholars across 11 universities in Texas, with plans to expand to additional universities in the next several years.
This individual contributor position will report directly to the Foundation’s Chief Program Officer and will work closely with other members of the Philanthropy and Foundation team.
Oversee and develop student success and leadership strategies to ensure López Scholars graduate on-time, without debt, and with leadership experience.
- Oversee implementation of the López Scholars leadership strategy and integrate components across existing HGLF events, including the López Scholars Leadership Summit.
- Manage López Scholar university partnerships (13 ) towards meeting HGLF’s long-term objectives and outcomes under its Theory of Change.
- Onboard new university partners and classes of López Scholars on an annual basis and maintain onboarding materials for both.
- Analyze Scholar academic progress on a semester basis and coordinate communications to Scholars regarding the status of their scholarship.
- Identify and develop policies to clarify the opportunities available through the scholarship such as study abroad, internships, and accelerated masters programs.
- Identify opportunities to highlight López Scholar accomplishments and/or university partner best practices to share through HGLF communications and via partnership events.
Produce regular reporting to Foundation officers and to the Board of Directors.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent organizational, problem solving and coordination skills, with demonstrated ability to manage a diverse and demanding workload.
- Ability to effectively steward relationships with non-profit and educational institutions , including translating best practices into funding/process improvement opportunities as well as managing deadlines, grant processes and managing feedback and reporting.
- Flexible and open to change while holding self and others accountable for high- quality performance.
- Ability to leverage and translate data and research to inform programmatic recommendations, improvements, and management.
- Experience interacting on social media and online networking tools and the ability to learn new platforms.
Comfort with technology and its use to develop efficiencies and with data to analyze complex problems to find innovative solutions.
Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) platforms, proficiency in Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) and the ability to learn new or updated software and databases.
- Ability to work collaboratively.
Preferred Skills/Abilities:
Prior experience working within a college or university, or as a funder working with IHEs.
- Experience building and maintaining programs, familiarity with Scholarship programs is a plus.
Education and Experience:
5-7 or more years of related experience. Master's Degree preferred but not required.
Additional Information
The position is full-time and requires that the person be based in Austin, Texas. The Foundation offices are located in downtown Austin, Texas. The Foundation maintains a hybrid work schedule with staff in the office two days a week. The role requires up to 20% travel primarily within Texas to HGLF partner universities and colleges. The salary for this position ranges from $115,000 - $121,000 with the exact salary depending on experience.
