At Heffernan Insurance Brokers, our team prides itself on our entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, and caring environment, and now we want to share that pride with you. The summer internship is an extensive ten-week program that provides an in depth look into the life of an insurance professional. Interns experience the daily operation of multiple departments, while enjoying the culture of our unique, privately held brokerage. You'll work side by side with seasoned mentors, who will encourage and support your learning for not just the summer, but hopefully for a future career with Heffernan!
While you are interning with Heffernan, you will be working in one primary department while having the opportunity to have exposure to all areas. You will be participating in projects that relate to :
Insurance Training
- Insurance Training courses offered by The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers (CIAB).
- Attending various weekly training engagements to further develop professional skills.
Areas of study include, but are not limited to Risk Management, Commercial Insurance, Employee Benefits, Sales, Marketing, Finance, IT, and HR.
Client Exposure
Shadowing team members as they meet with clients and prospects to gain a better understanding of risk improvement, insurance, sales and marketing process.Take part in various client service events.Help service teams resolve client issues in the most efficient and effective way, so our clients can focus on running and growing their business.Engage with customers or clients and provides service and / or sales.Internal Operations
Contribute to operational improvements as an engaged member of the team which includes providing input and suggesting solutions.Integrate new technologies within existing tools and processes to improve efficiency.Data analysis, ranging from work comp analysis to raw accounting numbers.Conduct original research and prepare reports based on findings, to include recommendations or alternative proposals for action.Requirements :
College students entering their Sophomore, Junior, or Senior year. Graduating seniors will also be considered.Must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average.Must have an interest in the insurance industry.Basic understanding of insurance concepts is preferred.Must be proficient in MS Office - notably Excel, Word, and Outlook.Must be resourceful! A successful Intern will ask questions and are eager to take on and learn more.Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.Must embody the Heffernan Habits as illustrated below.Compensation :

Work environment may be indoors, sitting at a desk or standing for extended periods of time.Daily use of computers, keyboard, mouse, headset, printers, and other commonly used office equipment.This position may require flexibility to work hours outside of a regular schedule.
