Objective:
HIB Marketplace, a subsidiary of Heffernan Insurance Brokers, is a digitally enabled wholesaler and Lloyd’s Coverholder. Our goal is to bring our retail agents a best-in-class product suite from a panel of carriers and solutions for the complex and constantly evolving specialty marketplace. HIB Marketplace’s creation of a turnkey Specialty and P&C practice will enable us to deliver consistent and compelling solutions, insights and services platform to our customers. Strong preference given to individuals that can work a hybrid schedule out of our Walnut Creek, CA or Los Angeles, CA offices.
Responsibilities Include:
Sales & Broker Relationships
- Develop and manage strong relationships with key retail broker partners to drive growth. This will include meetings by phone, video and in person. Production Underwriter to be the “face” of HIB Marketplace.
- Ability to provide education and training to retail brokers on product
- Build and maintain a pipeline of new business submissions to meet production goals
- Presence required at client and carrier meetings, customer events, association events and conferences. Some overnight travel may be necessary.
Underwriting Execution
- Overall responsibility to work with carrier partners and deliver accurate quotes to retail agents for the right price, meeting Marketplace minimums and insured insurance requirements, ensuring proposals are accurate, collecting all subjectivities and signature requirements and binding with carriers.
- Evaluates business quotes through PolicyFly (underwriting system) and other intake systems, compare against underwriting rules and binding authority to approve quotes back to retail agents and/or refer to carrier and Lloyd’s partners for transactional/flow small niche program business.
- Responsible for overall book of business and has oversight of all renewal activities
- Ability to be a technical resource for retail agents on policy form language, coverage questions, etc.
- Follows disciplined processes and actively supports and aligns with HIB Marketplace strategies/tools/resources.
Requirements:
- High School graduate/GED required. Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent of insurance industry experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in the insurance industry in broker or underwriting capacity.
- Demonstratable knowledge of small business insurance. Strong preference to individuals with a background in cyber, management liability, and professional liability.
- Must be effective and articulate in both oral and written communication to retail brokers, consumers, and internal team. Comfortable with presentations, both virtually and in person.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, Etc.).
- Professional demeanor and behavior are required.
- Ability to travel within territory up to 50% of the time.

Compensation:
The starting salary range for this position is $85,000 to $105,000. The offer will depend on the geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program.
