What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Accountant position at Heffernan Insurance Brokers?
Objective:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Staff Accountant to join our dynamic Finance team. The Staff Accountant will have a strong working knowledge of US GAAP and be responsible for participating in the month-end close process, including preparing journals entries, balance sheet reconciliations, variance analysis and assisting in month end reporting. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines. This position requires an individual who is deadline-oriented and flexible.
Responsibilities Include:
- Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting under US GAAP (including balance sheet reconciliation, ensuring appropriate support).
- Prepare month-end journals including banking, various accruals, and other company transactions, based on review of supporting reconciliations and schedules.
- Produce and present departmental financial analysis reports to support KPI & budgetary control.
- Partnering with the accounts payable, accounts receivable, company payables, FP&A and payroll teams to resolve variances or discrepancies.
- Assist in financial audits and prepare audit schedules.
- Assist with purchase entry related to M&A activity and update adjustments for future earn out calculations.
- Oversee the accounting and amortization of intangible assets.
- Maintain a strong control environment and contribute to the continuous improvement of processes automation and standardization.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
- Other projects and duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Education; High School graduate/GED. Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related preferred.
- Minimum two (2) years of proven work experience in a financial accounting role.
- Actively pursuing CPA license, or interest in obtaining preferred.
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills: Workday Office Connect is a plus.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills required.
- Demonstrate attention to detail to ensure accurate financial data.
- Strong interpersonal skills necessary to collaborate within, and, outside of the Finance Team.
- Must possess a positive attitude and the ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently.

Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $80,000. The offer will depend on the geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program.
