What are the responsibilities and job description for the Prevention Specialist - Youth Educator position at Hegira Health, Inc.?
Since 1971 Hegira Health, Inc. (HHI) has been a leader in behavioral healthcare. Today, HHI is one of Michigan's largest freestanding, integrated behavioral healthcare organizations, providing a wide variety of mental health and substance abuse treatment services to individuals of all ages.
The Prevention Specialist works in assigned schools along with the Prevention Coordinator presenting and facilitating discussion with high school students, teachers and parents. The Specialist presents information on the prevention, treatment and recovery of drugs , addiction , etc. The person should be able to stimulate discussion and facilitate group discussion.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree specializing in psychology, social work, or public health or a related discipline
- Obtain and/or maintain certification issued by Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals (MCBAP)
- One year’s direct knowledge of Alcohol, Tobacco & other Drugs, Substance Abuse, and violence prevention
- Experience working with youth in a classroom setting (preferred)
- Reliable transportation or means to get to high school sites.
Responsibilities (not all inclusive):
- Facilitate the Project Towards No Drug Abuse Prevention curriculum in the classrooms of area high schools.
- Work with the HHI Prevention Coordinator and SOR Coordinator to maintain services at high school sites and report data outcomes at the completion of services.
- Organize schedule to maximize provision of billable services and completion of documentation.
- Facilitate assigned programs, with fidelity, utilizing curriculum provided, including outcome surveys.
- Implement programs according to curriculum and project plan design, including target population, content and group size.
- Facilitate parental permission for minors participating in community-based programming.
- Develop materials to support programs as requested (flyers, newsletters, evaluations).
- Arrive on-site for programming on time, prepared with materials, volume and type.
- Transport self/materials to worksite and return materials to Prevention office per policy.
- Provide and collect sign-in sheets with original signatures of participants for each group facilitated.
- Return attendance sheets and evaluations to the Prevention Assistant within 5 days of the last scheduled session of each program.
- Implement outcome measurement instrument(s) as instructed.
- Maintain understanding of prevention domains, local and national changing trends and approaches.
- Maintain participant confidentiality per federal guidelines and the policy and procedures of Hegira Health, Inc.

Pay: $43,000.00 - $51,000.00 per year
