Job Description:
Plan, instruct and supervise swim lessons in accordance with the American Red Cross water safety instructor guidelines as well as the HPB Natatoriums policies and procedures. Provide a safe and productive learning environment through lesson planning. Follow progressive discipline process outlined by FWCS and the Helen P. Brown Natatorium. Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies and/or hazards in and around the pool in accordance the Emergency Action Plan.
Qualifications:
Must be a certified Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and have strong leadership, organizational, oral and written communication skills. Possess knowledge of the methods, terminology, principles, practices, procedures, materials and equipment used in assigned field
Essential Functions:
- Provide excellent swimming and water safety instruction to participants.
- Create lesson plans, methods and goals supporting the required skills for each class taught.
- Complete required paperwork for each class.
- Have positive interactions with students, parents, co-workers and supervisors.
- Enforce and follow the Natatorium’s rules and policies.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Be available to sub for instructors.
- Assist with moving deck and water equipment as needed to prepare for activities in the pool.
- Retrieve equipment to prepare for class and put it away when not in use.
- Maintain facility cleanliness and complete cleaning tasks as assigned.
- Attend and participate in meetings or in-services as required.
- Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak and hear. The employee is required to have dexterity of hands and fingers. The employee is required to sit and stand for extended periods of time. The employee must perform assigned duties which require bending, kneeling, twisting, and reaching overhead, above shoulders and horizontally. The employee will be required to push/pull, lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke and butterfly, tread water continuously for least 2 minutes and dive into the pool from the side.
