Job Summary:
At the Helen Farabee Center, we are seeking a compassionate and empathetic Mental Health Recovery Specialist to join our team. As a Peer Provider, you will work under the supervision of a Qualified Peer Support Supervisor to deliver support services to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. Your primary responsibility will be to provide recovery and wellness support, mentoring, and advocacy to help individuals regain control over their lives and recovery process.
Main Responsibilities:
You will provide support services and serve as a consumer advocate for individuals receiving services in an outpatient setting. This includes performing a wide range of tasks to assist individuals in regaining control over their own lives and recovery process, such as providing individual and group sessions. You will also model personal responsibility, self-advocacy, and hopefulness by sharing your recovery story to help individuals identify and experience recovery in their own life. Additionally, you will support individuals and learning teams (staff and community) by providing hope, encouragement, support, self-determination, and connection to the community. Demonstrating teamwork, initiative, and positive example in work habits at all times is essential for success in this role.
Requirements:
A standard high school diploma or GED is required. Eligibility for certification as a Mental Health Peer Specialist according to state guidelines and ViaHope policies and procedures is necessary. One year of successful treatment for a mental health issue and a willingness to disclose your lived experience and work toward recovery are essential. A valid driver's license and insurability to drive Center vehicles are also required. Certification as a Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS) must be obtained within 18 months of employment.

- Knowledge of programs for persons with behavioral and intellectual challenges, peer philosophy, recovery models, and trauma-informed care.
- Skill in sharing personal challenges, listening, documenting, and monitoring interactions with persons served.
- Ability to write progress notes according to standard with acceptable spelling and grammar.
- Display a customer service orientation, treating patients as equals and partners at all times.
- Ability to work in teams, follow policies and procedures, work with persons in challenging situations, and communicate effectively.
- Ability to relate verbal instructions, communicate in a courteous and effective fashion with co-workers, individuals served and families, agencies, and the public.
- Skilled in the use of network computers, word processing, database software, SmartCare, as it relates to documenting patient and family contacts.
