What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Coach position at Helena Dolphins Swim Team?
The Helena Dolphins Swim Team (HDST) is a coached-owned, year-round USA Swimming club for kids between the ages of 5 - 18, based out of Helena and Butte, Montana. HDST is seeking an enthusiastic, and dedicated assistant coach to join our swim team staff in Helena.
HDST is searching for:
- Energetic coaches looking to make a positive impact on our swimmers and to the culture of the Dolphins
- Professional coaches who want to continue to learn AND share ideas with our coaching staff
- Confident coaches willing to assist lead coaches AND those that have the desire to lead a group swimmers
- A coach who is available to do after-school hours, early-morning practice times, and / or potentially a weekend practice
Hours
This position does not offer 20 hours per week. We are looking for a coach who is available to lead a group 2 to 3 times per week, with the potential to fill in for additional groups as needed. Coaching hours will typically be scheduled for one-hour sessions.
Position Summary:
Execute daily practices in accordance with the season training plan. Aid swimmers in reaching their goals; communicate with parents, administration, and coaches in a positive manner. Develop a clear understanding of proper stroke technique and training and racing strategies through collaboration with the swimmers and coaching staff.
Practices are typically held in the evening hours during.
Essential Functions:
1. Instruct swimmers in accordance with HDST guidelines.
2. Builds effective, authentic relationships with athletes and parents, helping them connect with each other and the program
3. Effectively engage, manage, and motivate athletes.
4. Maintains records as necessary: attendance, performance evaluation, etc.
5. Attend staff meetings and training, as necessary.
6. Follows all HDST policy and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures, completes related reports as required.
7. Execute productive workouts both in and out of the water; organize and maintain training equipment on deck, reports needs to Head Coach.
8. Attend swim meets as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Applicants should have prior coaching experience and/or competitive swimming experience and hold or be willing to obtain the following certifications:
- Coaches Safety Training,
- CPR and First Aid (as is required to obtain USA Swimming Coaching credentials).
- USA Swimming coach certifications
- Background check
Compensation: This is an hourly position and the rate will be commensurate with experience. HDST will also cover the costs of required certifications and USA Swimming membership. Bonuses and raises will be based on performance reviews.
