Camp Description
Camp Child is located on 21 acres along the Little Blackfoot River, near the Continental Divide in Elliston, MT. YMCA Camp Child is much more than a camp; it is an environment of adventure, camaraderie, passion, and energy for individuals motivated by a spirit of exploration, service, leadership, enthusiasm and compassion.
Requirements
Must be at least 16 years or older, with a desire and attitude to work with children in a small group setting. Preferred 2-3 years camp experience, whether as a camper, leader-in-training, or counselor-in-training, with an emphasis on value-oriented learning. High School diploma or equivalent plus at least one-year post-secondary education preferred. Certification in CPR and First Aid required. Counselor must have proven management, good communication and organizational skills, and the ability to be creative and take direction/instruction. Experience in challenge/ropes courses, kayaking, canoeing, archery, hiking, fishing, backpacking, music, theater, arts, and crafts is preferred.
Training
Training will be offered for applicants who do not hold current CPR/1stAid Certifications or Lifeguard Certification. The applicant must attain all certifications prior to or on the first day of camp. All staff will receive camp training.
Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Camp Director:
- Follow all camp policies and schedules, teach and lead activities, know and enforce safety rules, care for camp equipment and facilities, assist with cleaning, work well in a team, and set a positive role model example for children to follow.
- The Summer Camp Counselor will lead the campers in their care in a safe and respectful manner through approved games, activities, special events, arts and crafts, and field trips while fostering the four core values of the YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
- The Summer Camp Counselor will assist the Camp Director in planning games, and activities, that promote the healthy spirit, mind, and body of the campers we serve.

The role of Counselor is the most important job at YMCA Camp Child. Successful completion of all the required duties and expectations will ensure that the experience of the camper will be a safe and positive one. Summer Day Camp is an important element in the fulfillment of the YMCA’s mission to help build spirit, mind, and body for all campers.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Temporary
Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour

- 10 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
