What are the responsibilities and job description for the Native Connections Grant Outreach Coordinator position at Helena Indian Alliance?
The outreach coordinator will be responsible for providing outreach with the community and service area population, including youth, families and partners. An outreach worker assists individuals with social or psychological challenges by facilitating lifestyle programs and offering them the support they need. The position will have an emphasis on Native American youth within the local community and schools. The coordinator will work closely with the grant director.
DUTIES, ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Coordinate with the Native Connections Grant Director to implement grant goals and objectives as related to outreach activities by participating in internal planning meetings and daily interaction with Native Connections staff.
· Assist in identifying stakeholders and resources in the area of youth services and Native American Culture.
· Assist in developing an outreach section as part of the overall strategic plan as identified in the Native Connections grant goals.
· Conduct an aggressive community outreach and dissemination program for all grant activities by utilizing social media, newsletter, community meetings, etc.
· Recruit area youth and or families to participate in a community lead Youth Advisory Committee to assist in developing and implementing community prevention activities.
· Plan and implement Prevention activities as guided by the strategic plan.
· Document all HIA youth and community activity participation by maintaining accurate logs
· Reach out to Native Connections Grant peers and resources from National, Regional and local stakeholders for support and implementation of Native Connections Grant Activities.
· Advocate for and implement culturally relevant activities and resources.
· Promote and support HIA through other activities in fundraising, professional representation, public appearances
· Attend monthly staff meetings and education and training opportunities
· Additional duties as assigned by supervisor and/or Executive Director
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILIITES, AND USE OF EQUIPMENT
- Able to work in team environment; as well as independently
- Positive communication skills both written and verbal.
- Strong computer skills including typing, Microsoft Suite, design websites such as Canva, and Zoom or Microsoft Teams
- General understanding of Native American culture and values.
- Ability to create and maintain professional and effective working relationships with clients, co-workers and general public.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED OR DESIRED)
- High School Diploma required.
- Associate Degree in related fields, such as psychology, sociology, social work is preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience implementing prevention activities to Native American youth and families.
- At least 2 years of experience working with youth and families at risk.
- Experience in community organizing, relationship building, and community outreach
· Current certification in CPR with AED. May complete within 3 months of employment
· Valid Montana Driver’s License with a driving record that will allow coverage on the center’s insurance policy.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is performed in a medical and behavioral health office and clinic setting; sitting, with intermittent standing and walks; reaches for and uses writing instruments and keyboard; reads reports and other written materials; extensive use of telephone and oral communication with the public and coworkers; stoops, bends, kneels, reaches for, picks up, and pushes or pulls; ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
All employees of Helena Indian Alliance may have contact with patients, families, visitors that may be physically debilitated, have mental or psychological conditions, or may be under the influence of a substance. Employees work areas include the entire facility and its property. Employees will have interaction with the entire staff throughout the facility. The position will be working off-site, and after hours and weekends as necessary. Regular interaction with other community organizations, schools, and other stakeholders.
HAZARDS ASSOCIATED TO THE JOB
All employees of Helena Indian Alliance have a risk of exposure to communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens, and toxic substances and chemicals. All employees have a risk of physical injury due to lifting, transferring or moving objects or assisting patients. Employees with driving privileges are at risk of a motor vehicle accident.
