What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Education/Overage Para Educator (Teacher Assistant) position at Helena Public Schools?
- Assists with individual and small group pupil instruction; tutors pupils at teachers' request.
- Assists in maintaining discipline and other functions.
- Supervises students during recess and lunch period.
- Assist with attendance and related clerical matters.
- May escort students to and from various rooms.
- Up to three (3) months of related experience and/or training; and
- Willingness to complete supplmental training as required by HPS to be recognized as highly qualifed
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by the District.
- This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Helena School District and the Helena Education Association.
- Prior to employment, you must successfully complete the appropriate background check required for employment.

Helena School District # 1 has an opening for a full-time 6 hours per school day General Education/Overage Para Educator. The position is presently assigned to Central Elementary School.

As a General Education Para Educator, you contribute to this mission by assisting students individually and in small groups. You will work as part of a team of 160 serving 8,000 students and 18 campuses across Helena.

Essential functions of the position include the ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds without a reasonable accommodation.
Entry level salary range is $14.45 to $17.98 per hour depending on education level and applicable relevant work experience as determined by the District and includes a comprehensive benefit package including but not limited to paid sick and vacation leave, 3 paid personal days, 9 paid holidays, 9 paid school calendar related days, health benefit plan and retirement.
