Position Overview
The Groundskeeper Lead is responsible for overseeing and participating in the upkeep of outdoor areas, including landscaping, lawn care, and general maintenance. This role involves supervising a team of groundskeepers, scheduling tasks, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and maintain the overall curb appeal of housing authority properties.
Supervisory Duties:
- Lead and coordinate a team of groundskeepers.
- Assign tasks and ensure timely completion of work orders
- Train new employees on safety procedures, equipment use, and maintenance techniques.
- Inspect work to ensure quality and compliance with housing authority standards.
Grounds Maintenance:
- Perform and oversee landscaping tasks such as mowing, trimming, edging and weeding.
- Maintain trees, shrubs, and flower beds, including pruning and planting as needed.
- Remove trash debris, and hazardous materials from outdoor areas.
- Handle seasonal tasks such as snow removal, leaf cleanup and irrigation system maintenance.
- Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment (mowers, trimmers, blowers, etc)
General Maintenance and Repairs:
- Perform minor repairs on outdoor structures, pathways, and fences.
- Identify and report larger maintenance issues to the appropriate department.
- Ensure proper drainage and address erosion or landscape damage as needed.
Safety and Compliance:
- Follow and enforce OSHA safety regulations and housing authority policies.
- Handle and store chemicals, fertilizers and Landscaping materials safety.
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests related to the grounds.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience in groundskeeping, landscaping or a related field.
- Leadership experience or ability to supervise a team.
- Knowledge of lawn care, tree maintenance, and pest control.
- Ability to operate and maintain landscaping tools and heavy equipment.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and lift heavy objects.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in pesticide application or landscaping (if required by local laws).
- Experience in affordable housing or property management environments.
Minimum Education, Training, and/or Experience
This position requires a high school diploma or GED. Preferred qualifications include graduation from an accredited college or technical school with a degree or certification in a related trade; a minimum of two years’ experience supervising and/or maintaining multifamily rental property; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Regular attendance is required for this position.
