Department: Medical Staff
Reports to: Practice Administrator
Job Summary:
The Medical Asistant will assist Providers (ie M.D.,N.P. , P.A.) with patient care. They will create an atmosphere that reflects the level of standards and care that patients can expect to receive from this practice. The Provider entrusts the goodwill of patients to the medical staff, therefore extending their relationship with the patient.
To be successful in this position, the medical assistant must be cheerful, friendly, polite, tactful, and professional in appearance and manner at all times. They will be able to communicate effectively with providers and patients. They will be mindful of patient confidentiality. They will able to evaluate and respond to a patient’s needs and relay the providers instructions. The successful medical assistant will be a team player and respectful of their co-workers.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
As assigned, but not limited to the following:
- Fulfill patient care responsibilities as assigned, assist provider with patient care.
- Escort patient to and from exam room, help patients prepare for exam.
- Enter patient history, reason for visit and transcribe for provider into patients electronic medical record.
- Clean per CDC guidelines the exam rooms between patients.
- Set up for surgeries per providers instructions and assist with surgical procedure.
- Prepare path/lab specimens, fill out correct requisitions accurately.
- Retrieve path/lab reports as directed. Follow-up per providers instructions.
- Respond to patient questions in office and on phone as instructed. Document
important conversation in triage section of patient’s chart.
- Notify patient’s of path/lab results.
- Phone prescriptions and refills to pharmacy.
- Calibrate, clean, sterilize and inventory all medical equipment and instruments.
- Upkeep and cleanliness of exam rooms. Supply cabinets always well stocked.
- Make sure to document all medical instructions given to patients.
- Knowledgeable and compliant of HIPPA
- Knowledgeable of all products and procedures in office. Able to explain both to
patients.
- Be Knowledgeable of fees for products and procedures.
- May require obtaining preauthorization for medications.
Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma
Experience: Prior patient care experience required.
BLS CPR Required
Knowledgeable of medical terminology and ICD-10 codes. Computer knowledge a must, previous use of electronic medical records required.
Skills: Able to speak English clearly
Good verbal and written communication skills. Correct Spelling
Able to add, subtract, multiply, divide and use number fractions.
Able to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
Able to prioritize tasks, understand the providers instructions, and know when to seek additional information or advice.
Physical Demands:
Standing and walking
Some sitting, stooping and reaching. Use of hands and fingers
Talking and listening in person and on telephone. Some weight lifting over 10 pounds.
Work Environment:
Sometimes busy, hectic and/or noisy with interruptions. Exposure to routine dermatological diseases and procedures
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 38 per week
