CUSTODIAN I
Range 12
DEFINITION:
To keep assigned rooms, buildings, or office space clean and orderly and to keep assigned grounds clean and free of weeds and debris. Does specialized cleaning as scheduled.
Positions in this class are assigned custodian duties during a day or swing shift
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
May receive immediate supervision from the School Administrative Manager/Principal.
May exercise some supervision of students.
Exercises no supervision of adults or other employees.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Reports needed repairs to the office.
Moves, adjusts, assembles and repairs supplies, equipment and furniture as required.
Cleans the inside of buildings and windows according to established schedule and procedure.
Unlocks and secures buildings as required.
Sweeps, scrubs, mops, strips, and waxes floors.
Keep walks and asphalt areas free of debris.
Cleans lunch tables and areas around lunch tables,
Keep rugs and carpets clean.
Dusts/cleans furniture, woodwork, whiteboards, TV’s, and blinds.
Cleans restrooms.
Adheres to rules and regulations related to health and safety.
Empty trash cans.
Assists in setting up classrooms or cafeteria for meetings and/or special events.
Maintains security of school property at all times.
Submits orders of custodial supplies as needed.
May be assigned alternative work schedules during the time school is not in session.
Performs minor maintenance work at sites as needed.
Supports district priorities for a safe and clean campus.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:
Experience:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Some janitorial or custodial experience is desirable.
Knowledge of:
Materials, chemicals, equipment, and methods used in custodial work.
Ability to:
To Organize and prioritize workload.
Use cleaning equipment, chemicals and materials with skill and safety.
Use tools in minor maintenance work
Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Work effectively in the absence of supervision
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Minimum Requirements:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Passage of approved district written test.
Possess an appropriate valid California Driver's license,
In accordance with district insurance provisions, operate district owned vehicles.
Successfully complete an oral interview.
Special Requirements:
Lift objects up to 50 pounds.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work includes indoor and outdoor environments; subject to lifting, pushing-bending, stooping, use of chemicals, may be assigned to drive from site-to-site to conduct work.
