HELENDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT CAFETERIA WORKER I Range 4 DEFINITION: To assist in the preparation for serving of foods; to assist in maintaining food services facilities in a clean and sanitary condition. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Receives general supervision from the School Administrative Manager/Principal; may receive general instruction/direction from Cafeteria Worker II. May exercise functional and technical supervision over student workers. May assist with supervision of students. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Cleans food services facilities (sweep, mop, empty trash, wipe tables, walls, etc.), including serving areas, equipment, and utensils. Maintains temperature of hot and cold foods as required by the Health Department. Prepares and serves food and assists in setting up steam tables and/or salad bar for food service. Supervises students. Operates a variety of kitchen equipment including disposal unit, stove, and ovens. Maintains appropriate records for sold items including lunch and breakfast foods. Completes cash reports/food service forms as required. Keeps food and supply inventory updated. Maintains food counts daily for ordering purposes. Submits supply order as needed. Supports district priorities for a safe and clean campus. Performs other related duties as assigned. EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS: EXPERIENCE: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Some experience in serving large quantities of foods, care of kitchen equipment and operating a computer is desirable. Knowledge of: FIFO - First in first out Basic computer skills Basic Methods of serving foods in large quantities. Basic kitchen utensils and equipment. Basic mathematics/measurement skills. English usage and comprehension, including reading and writing. Hygiene methods for handling foods. Applicable State and Federal Nutrition Laws and Regulations. Ability to; Operate equipment and machines. Input data in POS per CDE guidelines Perform basic mathematical calculations. Maintain accurate records. Understand and carry out oral and written directions. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships Minimum Requirements The equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade The passage of a district written test The successful completion of an oral interview The possession of an appropriate valid California Driver's License Fingerprint clearance Special Requirements: Food Handlers card is required Revised August 17, 2022 Board Approved 10/19/2022
