Heli-1 is seeking a motivated Aviation Safety Manager / Technical Writer to lead safety initiatives and produce high-quality technical documentation for our operations. Position Overview:
As the Aviation Safety Manager, you will oversee safety programs and processes, ensuring compliance with aviation regulations and company standards. You will also serve as the Technical Writer, responsible for creating, revising, and maintaining technical manuals, policies, and procedures to support operations.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Managing and maintaining the company’s Safety Management System (SMS), including hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies.
  • Conducting safety audits, incident investigations, and root cause analyses, and ensuring timely corrective actions are implemented.
  • Developing and delivering safety training programs to staff and flight crews.
  • Writing, editing, and maintaining technical manuals, policies, and procedures in compliance with FAA regulations and industry best practices.
  • Ensuring all documentation is up-to-date, accurate, and accessible to relevant personnel.
  • Collaborating with various departments to gather technical information and translate it into clear, concise documentation.
  • Monitoring regulatory changes and updating company policies and procedures as needed.
  • Promoting a strong safety culture across all levels of the organization.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Must live in the Missoula, Montana area or be willing to relocate.
  • A strong commitment to safety, reliability, and quality in all work performed.
  • Excellent technical writing skills, with attention to detail and the ability to create clear, concise documentation.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and documentation management tools.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with teams and departments.
  • A willingness to learn aviation safety principles and SMS best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in aviation safety, engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in technical writing, preferably in the aviation industry.
  • Knowledge of FAA regulations, including Part 135 operations, and FAA safety standards (e.g., SMS compliance, maintenance safety protocols, and flight safety requirements).
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety regulations and practices, particularly as they apply to aviation environments.
  • Experience with the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) standards and implementation.
  • Prior experience conducting safety audits, incident investigations, or root cause analyses.
