Job Summary:
The Plant Manager will oversee daily operations and lead all activities at a high-precision machining facility specializing in aerospace, defense, and medical manufacturing. This role is responsible for ensuring that production meets stringent quality, safety, and compliance standards required by these industries. The Plant Manager will drive continuous improvement, manage cross-functional teams, and ensure optimal utilization of resources while maintaining customer satisfaction and achieving production targets.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Identify training needs and coordinate the professional development of team members, including technical training in machining, quality standards, and safety practices.
- Track and evaluate employee performance, addressing performance issues and recognizing achievements to maintain a motivated and high-performing workforce.
- Facilitate open communication across teams and serve as the primary point of contact between upper management and plant staff.
- Lead process improvement efforts by encouraging team input, identifying inefficiencies, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Production & Operations Management
- Oversee daily production activities, ensuring adherence to schedules, quality standards, and safety protocols.
- Ensure that production processes meet all regulatory and customer requirements for high-precision machining.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality assurance, and other departments to optimize workflows and maintain high output levels.
- Monitor and control production KPIs, including productivity, efficiency, and waste reduction.
Quality Assurance
- Ensure that all products meet the strict quality standards required in aerospace, defense, and medical manufacturing, including compliance with ISO, AS9100, and other relevant certifications.
- Work closely with the quality assurance team to minimize defects, implement corrective actions, and conduct root cause analysis.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement focused on defect prevention and high product quality.
Safety & Compliance
- Implement and enforce a robust safety program, ensuring compliance with OSHA, industry, and company safety regulations.
- Promote a safety-first culture and ensure that employees are trained on safety practices, emergency procedures, and equipment handling.
Resource & Capacity Planning
- Manage labor and resources to balance workload, minimize downtime, and maintain flexibility in production scheduling.
- Oversee capacity planning to ensure readiness for high-precision production demands while aligning with budget constraints and delivery timelines.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and motivate a diverse team of machinists, engineers, quality inspectors, and other staff members.
- Identify training needs, conduct performance evaluations, and support professional growth and development of team members.
- Foster a collaborative, solution-oriented environment and build effective communication within and across departments.
Process Improvement & Lean Manufacturing
- Identify and implement process improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and minimize costs.
- Utilize Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies to continuously improve production processes and optimize plant efficiency.
Customer Relationship Management
- Engage with key customers to understand specific requirements and ensure satisfaction with delivery, quality, and responsiveness.
- Act as a liaison between the plant and customers, proactively addressing issues and adapting production as needed to meet changing requirements.
Budget & Cost Control
- Develop, monitor, and control the plant’s operational budget, managing costs while meeting production and quality goals.
- Ensure efficient use of materials, resources, and personnel to maximize profitability.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong understanding of GD&T, CNC machining, high-precision manufacturing processes, and quality assurance practices.
- Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and/or other process improvement methodologies.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, such as AS9100, ISO 9001, and FDA requirements for medical devices.
- Excellent leadership and team-building skills, with a demonstrated ability to motivate and manage diverse teams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams, engaging with customers, and presenting reports to senior management.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 4-7 years in a leadership role. Prior experience in high-precision machining within aerospace, defense, or medical manufacturing is strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, feel/reach with hands/arms, and talk to hear.
The employee frequently is required to sit and walk. The employee is occasionally required to bend and stop, push and pull, reach above shoulder level, kneel, squat, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job to include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
