Job Overview :
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Special Education to lead and manage the district's special education programs. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices, along with a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment for all students. This role requires a strong leader who can oversee the implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs), provide guidance and support to special education staff, and ensure that all students with disabilities receive the services and accommodations they need. Candidates should be experienced in or open to utilizing new technologies to enhance special education programs and improve student outcomes.
Responsibilities :
- Lead and oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of special education programs, services, and policies for students across the district.
- Supervise and provide guidance to special education teachers, staff, and support personnel, ensuring they have the resources and training necessary to support students with diverse needs.
- Collaborate with administrators, general education staff, and related service providers to ensure the successful integration of special education students into general education settings whenever possible.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to special education, including IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Provide direct instructional support in special education classrooms, working with students who have a variety of disabilities (e.g., learning disabilities, autism, emotional / behavioral disorders).
- Oversee the development, review, and monitoring of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities, ensuring that goals are appropriately tailored and services are provided effectively.
- Provide professional development and ongoing training for special education staff to ensure the use of best practices and up-to-date knowledge in the field of special education.
- Advocate for the needs of students with disabilities and ensure that they have access to the necessary accommodations, modifications, and resources to succeed.
- Monitor student progress, assess the effectiveness of special education programs, and use data to inform decision-making and improve services.
- Develop and manage the budget for special education services, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and funding to support students' needs.
- Integrate technology into special education programs and services, using digital tools, assistive technology, and innovative practices to enhance student learning and engagement.
- Foster positive relationships with parents, guardians, and community stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and collaboration to support students' success.
- Stay informed on current trends, research, and technologies in the field of special education and actively explore new methods to support students with disabilities.
- Participate in district leadership meetings and collaborate with other administrators to ensure district-wide goals are aligned and met.
