Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs, ensuring that goals are appropriate, measurable, and aligned with state and federal regulations.
- Provide direct instruction in all academic subjects within the self-contained classroom, including adapting lessons to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Use a variety of teaching strategies, interventions, and accommodations to support student learning and progress.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and school staff to ensure the success of students in inclusive and pull-out settings.
- Monitor and track student progress, adjusting instructional strategies as needed to ensure academic success.
- Provide social-emotional support and implement behavior management plans to help students develop appropriate interpersonal skills and emotional regulation.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress, discuss concerns, and collaborate on solutions.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, IEP goals, and accommodations.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education.
- Foster a positive, structured, and safe learning environment that supports the needs of students with diverse disabilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field (required).
- Valid teaching certification in Special Education (specific to LA preferred).
- Experience working with students in a self-contained special education setting (grades 6-8 preferred).
- Strong knowledge of IEP development, behavior management strategies, and differentiated instruction techniques.
- Ability to create and adapt curriculum to meet individual student needs.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a deep commitment to supporting students with diverse learning needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and families.
- Master's degree in Special Education or a related field (preferred).
- Experience working with students who have emotional/behavioral disabilities, learning disabilities, or other developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge of assistive technology and its application in the classroom.
- Familiarity with Response to Intervention (RTI) models and other educational frameworks.
