HELIX WATER DISTRICT is looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Safety Technician I / II to join our organization. Reporting to the Safety & Risk Administrator, this position plays a vital role in fostering a safe and productive work environment.

Scheduled salary increases :

• July 1, 2025 : 2 - 4% Cost-of-living Adjustment.
• Annual Merit Increases : Full-time employees are eligible for 5% merit increases on an annual basis until they reach the top of their pay range.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates will have a minimum training and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a GED, supplemented by specialized training in safety, risk management, hazardous materials management; and at least two years of experience in occupational safety and health preferably within construction or the water / wastewater industry.

Training and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a GED, supplemented by specialized training in safety, risk management, hazardous materials management, or related fields; and at least four years of experience in water / wastewater operations with two years at advanced journey-level with safety responsibilities.

Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, supplemented by specialized training in safety, risk management, hazardous materials management; and at least two years of experience within the water / wastewater industry.

A valid Class C California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the district's vehicle insurance policy.

A valid State of California State Water Resources Control Board Water Treatment Operator Certificate, Grade 2 (T2) or Water Distribution Operator Certificate, Grade 2 (D2) or ability to obtain within two years.

Possession of or ability to obtain valid Department of Transportation hazardous materials certification and maintain valid certification thereafter.

Possession of or ability to obtain valid CPR / AED and First Aid within six months and maintain valid certification thereafter.
