Job Description
NO grease, NO flipping burgers, NO frying! Helix is currently seeking an individual with basic culinary training or experience in a food setting to help prep, cook and plate food in our ventless kitchen. Our wine, craft bar and cafe menu is focused on fresh sandwiches, soups, charcuterie and cheese boards, dips, light bites/appetizers, shareables like meatball platters, and baked items like quiches and and casseroles. We are searching for an energetic, organized, highly motivated individual who will thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented bar and cafe environment. A creative touch with plating is a plus in this job where you'll be working as part of a small team in a newer kitchen without grease or deep fryers!
Job Responsibilities
- Food prep, including slicing meats and cheeses for charcuterie boards, prepping and cooking warm items like meatballs, sausages and sauces, making dips, salads, and spreads, and using TurboChefs and induction burners for cooking and heating various menu items
- The ability to safely use equipment and tools including sharp knives, meat slicer, food processor, convection ovens, and induction burners
- Cleaning and basic maintenance of kitchen equipment
- Plate food items neatly, so that there is a consistent appearance of plates coming out of the kitchen
- Assist with unloading food deliveries, and making sure items are properly stored in refrigerators, freezers, and pantry
- Stock kitchen with supplies as needed
- Make sure to clean each work surface or cutting board before and after use, and sweep and mop the floor at end of food service
- Other cleaning tasks such as taking out the trash, washing dishes and flatware, and using a high-temperature dishwasher are a regular part of this job
- Set a positive tone and strong work ethic, leading by example
- Ability to calmly and effectively multitask in a fast-based, busy environment
- Able to move and lift up to 10 pounds frequently, move and/or lift up to 25 pounds, and occasionally move and /or lift up to 50 pounds (with reasonable accommodations, such as a hand truck). You should also be able to climb up and down a ladder

Qualifications and Skills
- Commercial kitchen experience is required, but we will train you as well
- Certification or previous training in culinary arts is not necessary but a definite plus
- Ability to multitask and remain calm in a fast-paced environment
- Available to work a variety of hours, days, and shifts, including weekends throughout the year
- Ability to stand for an entire shift and move safely through all areas of the establishment, including slick surfaces in the back of house
- An understanding of food allergy procedures to help avoid cross-contamination of food items leaving the kitchen
Compensation
The Helix Kitchen/Food Artist hourly wage will be dependent on your number of years of experience, and any training you may have in culinary arts. The starting wage is $16 per hour, and benefits include 50% off food menu items while on shift, 10% off your entire bill when off shift, and 10% off all retail items at Helix.
