Helm Group, Inc. (www.helmgroup.com) is seeking a seeking an energetic, proactive, and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our team in our Freeprort, IL office. As a Payroll Specialist, you will process weekly and monthly payrolls for our multiple construction companies using our in-house software (Vista by Viewpoint) for 1500 employees (primarily union construction employees). Time sensitive tasks to be completed by established deadlines including but not limited to balancing hours and dollars, reconciliation of deductions, preparation of accounts payable debit/credit memos, internal audit of weekly payroll summaries, historical amendments to timesheets and union reporting. The successful candidate will need exceptional organizational skills to effectively coordinate and complete a variety of tasks timely and accurately. The candidate will communicate with multiple department managers and payroll time entry assistants.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all information encountered
- Manage time and resources to meet predetermined deadlines
- Update and verify union rates and benefit changes per union local contract
- Assist with new hire documentation and layoff reporting
- Assist with union payroll audits
- Payroll processing related to numerous state’s withholding, unemployment and unions
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to question from management, coworkers, vendors, business contacts and outside agencies
- Prepare payroll tax deposits
- Prepare 401k deposit file and upload
- Process direct deposits and print checks
- Prepare monthly union audit reporting
- Import and reconcile hours from various departments
- Assist with year-end payroll reporting, W-2’s, etc.
Basic Knowledge/Skills:

Qualifications & Requirements:
- High School Diploma required.
- College degree preferred, but not necessary.
- 2-5 years of payroll or accounting experience
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
