Infusion RN - Oncology

SUMMARY:
The oncology infusion nurse (RN) practices at a high level of autonomy and accountability in collaboration with oncologists and the multidisciplinary team to provide a continuum of patient care specifically focusing on the patient’s treatment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Infusion RN - Oncology
Administration of prescribed intravenous and injection chemotherapy drugs, as well as pre- and post-treatment patient care.
Educates new patients and their family about the mechanism of action and possible side effects of their chemotherapy treatments.
Provides final review of chemotherapy orders
Sets up the initial chemotherapy appointment and ensures the appropriate lab work is ordered before initiating chemotherapy.
Reviews all lab work and consults with nurse practitioners (NP) and/or MDs regarding abnormal results.
Monitor patients for reactions during chemotherapy and provides interventions as directed by providers.
Ensures all lab work and imaging needed for chemotherapy is up to date.
Charts chemotherapy on the e-MAR in a timely manner.
EDUCATION: RN degree, BSN preferred.
LICENSE: Alabama State Board of Nursing
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2 years nursing experience with one year of oncology preferred
REQUIREMENTS: Current nursing license in the state of Alabama, current CPR status National certification in oncology preferred.
