The Cytogenetic Supervisor provides operational management and strategic planning of their designated laboratory section. Innovative, solution-oriented, and effective leadership is essential for the Cytogenetic Supervisor to successfully collaborate with directors, managers, coworkers, and clients.
The Cytogenetic Supervisor is expected to hold a meaningful understanding of section responsibilities and procedures. Specific clinical responsibilities are determined by the Director.
Supervisors directly report to the section Director and provide support to Assistant/Associate Director(s) accomplishing clinical and R&D tasks in the section.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Team Management
- Responsible for personnel management including overseeing training efforts, ensuring competency completion, coaching employees.
- Develops appropriate work schedules for employees and plans daily work assignments in order to minimize turnaround time and meet patient care needs.
- Works with team Leads to ensure employees adhere to department specific processes, SOPs, and quality control programs and compliance to safety/health and state/federal/licensing regulations.
- Works with Directors and Leads with support of team members to ensure SOPs and lab manuals updated and regularly reviewed by staff members.
- Works with section Director to ensure adequate staffing.
- Monitors and completes payroll to ensure accuracy in pay period data.

Quality and Safety Assurance
- Works with QC Lead, Quality Manager Coordinator and Directors to ensure implementation of appropriate QM measurements.
- Works with team Leads and members to maintain and evaluate current equipment, systems, and supplies and escalates problems to the section Director as needed.
- Works with Safety Officer and section Director to ensure implementation of appropriate safety measurements.
Project Management
- Works with Directors and Leads to plan large-scale projects such as implementation of new instruments and software systems to improve workflow.
- Supervises the validation of new equipment and systems, with support of team Leads and members.
- Facilitates section meetings in collaboration with Lead(s)/Director(s).
Licenses , Certifications, and Education
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree or a Bachelor of Arts degree
- Technologist in Cytogenetics (ASCP-CG)
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience in team management in clinical laboratories (minimum of 3 years).
- Knowledge of hematopathology Cyto.
- Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions and interpret results.
- Ability to manager and oversee a high-volume workflow.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to plan, organize, develop tactical plans and set priorities.
- Ability to solve problems and identify solutions.
- Ability to supervise, coach, mentor, train, and evaluate work results.
- Ability to work effectively both as a team player and leader.
- Knowledge of chemistry, biology, microbiology and related laboratory sciences.
- Knowledge of laboratory controls, methods, procedures and regulations.

Salary : $102,000 - $127,500
