Hematology Oncology Associates was established in Palm Beach County over 35 years ago, and has grown to include 10 Board Certified Hematologist and Oncologists and 6 Nurse Practitioners in 3 convenient locations within our community. We also specialize in treatment of coagulation blood disorders, leukemias and other hematologic benign conditions. Job Description:
- The infusion nurse will have a working knowledge of chemotherapy drugs and associated side effects, good patient teaching skills, and a thorough understanding of various treatment programs. He/she will display excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with the staff, physicians, and a diverse patient population. The infusion nurse will have the ability to organize and coordinate complex clinical activities.
- Assist physicians as needed. Ensure that all records and information is available.
- Assist MA’s in obtaining patient histories. Take and record vital signs including height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiratory rate, mental status.
- Physically assists patient in the movement and transfer within the office.
- Obtain and analyze laboratory results.
- Collects samples from patients including blood and urine.
- Provides educational information to patients and families pertaining to the administration of chemotherapy. Answers inquiries and provides advice as needed.
- Assists front desk-staff in making follow-up appointments, or following up on current appointments. Answers routine questions from patients and family.
- Consults with other medical personnel and may provide expert information about chemotherapy and side effect management.
- Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
- Ensures clinical areas are organized. Works collaboratively with clinical staff and other departments in solution-oriented problem solving while avoiding negative attitudes.
- Tracks patients in and out of clinical areas. In the event of an emergency, the nurse may be called to activate the proper “code” and assist providers with emergency response.
- Attends staff meetings as required.
- Acts in capacity as interpreter as needed.
- Performs all duties and service in full compliance with HOA’s standard of care.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisor or in support of quality patient care.
