What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant position at Hematology Oncology Specialists?
Reports To: Nursing Supervisor
Position: The Medical Assistant is responsible for patient flow by directing patients to specific areas and performing certain patient oriented duties. The Medical Assistant II provides auxiliary support to all medical office functions. In addition, this person is directly responsible for supply orders & inventory. This individual will assist the physician or RN as required and coordinates patient care with the Medical Assistant I.
Primary Functions and Responsibilities:
- Directs patients into exam rooms
- Obtains and records weight and vital signs
- Obtains and records height and allergies on new patients
- Performs venipuncture and finger sticks
- Gives IM and SC injections as directed by MD or Rn
- Prepares patient for exam or procedures as indicated
- Calls for test and lab results
- Fills out appropriate lab requisitions
- Stocks and maintains clean, safe exam rooms and other patient areas
- Assists RN in monitoring patients receiving chemotherapy and blood transfusions
Other Responsibilities:
- Rotates through Lab on a regular basis
- Assists at front desk when needed, making appointments, scheduling tests and taking messages
- Files medical records
- Records laboratory results
- Coordinates overall presentation of the office with other staff members
- Cleaning & stocking kithcen
- Filling soap dispensers
- Tossing outdated magazines
- Watering plants
- Organizing patient literature
- Replacing drinking cups in waiting room, restroom and patient rooms
- Orients new staff members
- Directs Medical Assistant I's as needed
- Assists MD and/or RN at satellite offices
Qualifications:
- Phlebotomy Certificate through ASPT
- Experience in oncology based practice
- Experience in phlebotomy, injections and patient care
- Knowledge of laboratory operations, including operation of CBC analyzer, preparation of specimens, record keeping and safety compliance
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
Experience:
- Oncology: 1 year (Preferred)
- Phlebotomy: 1 year (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- Phlebotomoy Certificate through ASPT (Required)
Ability to Relocate:
- Visalia, CA 93277: Relocate before starting work (Required)
