What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Director of Public Works position at HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP?
This position is responsible to assist with the oversight of the combination of physical assets, management practices, and personnel necessary for Hempfield Township to provide and sustain structures and services essential to the welfare and quality of life for its citizens. This position performs administrative and technical work in the administration, planning, coordination, and supervision of the activities of the Department of Public Works. Responsible to manage people, finances, and other necessary resources to meet existing needs and to plan for the future of the Township in regards to the infrastructure and land use. Assist with the development and implementation of a program that plans for the future based on available resources to ensure a successful Department of Public Works with a focus on sustainability. Recommends long range planning for the betterment of the Township policies, procedures, and efficiency in Public Works matters.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist the Director of Public Works in the administering of the daily operation of the Public Works Department including preparing the daily work crew and equipment assignments for all routine or emergency or improvement projects for all Township owned roads, bridges, drainage systems, infrastructure, facilities, and buildings.
2. Maintain detailed equipment, physical property, and material inventory as may be needed for project management and equipment maintenance, purchase or leasing.
3. Order and maintain an inventory of any parts, supplies, or materials utilized by the Public Works Department.
4. Meet with the Township residents, property owners, contractors working within the Township, Township Engineers, and utility representatives as needed to coordinate all work within any Township right of way or on any Township property.
5. Manage the Traffic Management Program within the Department.
6. Performs general office work, including but not limited to attending and conducting meetings, reviewing mail and literature, preparing reports and correspondence, entering computer data, copying and filing documents, answering the telephone, etc.
7. Communicate with other departments and public agencies for the dissemination of information; leads and participates in public education and community outreach programs.
8. Develop and implement assessment tools for various departmental programs, collect and analyze data, and deliver recommendations to the Director of Public Works, Township Manager, and/or Board of Supervisors.
9. Participate in committee work for department and/or Township as deemed appropriate by the Director of Public Works, Township Manager and/or Board of Supervisors.
10. Provide other services and perform other tasks as requested or assigned by the Director of Public Works, Township Manager and/or Board of Supervisors.
