Dietary Cook- Full time at Mesa View Assisted Living

Hemphill County Hospital District is seeking one Full-Time Dietary Cook to join our team at Mesa View Assisted Living. This role is responsible for preparing nutritional food for residents, employees, and guests, operating and maintaining kitchen equipment, and ensuring the cleanliness of kitchen equipment, utensils, and dining areas.

Schedule: This is a full-time position with a 5 days on / 2 days off rotating schedule, working 8-hour shifts. Shift times rotate between 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM and 10:30 AM – 6:30 PM, with rotating weekends.

Job Responsibilities:

• Prepare, season, and cook food for residents, employees, and guests as directed by the Dietary Supervisor.
• Review menus to determine types and quantities of food to be prepared.
• Plan cooking schedules to ensure food is ready at specified times.
• Prepare food using standardized recipes, including meals for residents on therapeutic diets.
• Prepare food for meetings and special functions as needed.
• Operate kitchen equipment such as stoves, steam pots, and ovens safely.
• Maintain high sanitary standards in the kitchen and clean cooking equipment.
• Assist with sweeping, mopping, and maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen, dishwashing areas, storeroom, and dining areas.
• Dispose of garbage and trash appropriately.
• Advise the Dietary Supervisor of equipment needs and necessary maintenance.
• Maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance regarding resident and facility matters.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Comply with all local and state food handling requirements.

Job Requirements:Education:

• Minimum: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Work Experience:

• Minimum: Professional manner and appearance; tact and patience in dealing with others, particularly the elderly.
• Preferred: Experience in institutional or commercial food service/preparation.

Licenses & Certifications:

• Minimum: BLS certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
• Minimum: ServSafe certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

Skills & Abilities:

• Must convey a professional demeanor.
• Must be able to multitask
• Must be able to read recipes and create palatable meals 
• Ability to remain calm and efficient in a busy or stressful environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Adheres to all policies and procedures, including safety, attendance, punctuality, and personal appearance standards.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with managers and peers.

Physical Requirements:

• The Dietary Cook role requires heavy physical activity, including lifting up to 100 pounds, with frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying (50-75 pounds), bending, stooping, and reaching for cleaning tasks.
• Requires the ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
• Position requires physical fitness, visual and hearing acuity.
