The Rural Health Clinic (RHC) Biller plays a key role in managing the billing and reimbursement process for our rural healthcare clinic. This position ensures the accurate and timely submission of claims, optimizing revenue cycle management by verifying insurance coverage, processing claims, reconciling payments, and addressing billing inquiries.
Working closely with healthcare providers, patients, and insurance companies, the RHC Biller helps facilitate smooth billing operations, resolve payment issues, and maximize reimbursement. This position operates under the general supervision of the RHC Lead Biller and requires attention to detail, compliance knowledge, and strong customer service skills.
Key Responsibilities
Insurance Verification & Eligibility
- Verify insurance coverage for scheduled appointments and procedures.
- Confirm patient eligibility for healthcare benefits and services.
- Obtain prior authorizations when required.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date insurance records.
Billing & Claims Submission
- Generate and submit accurate claims for healthcare services.
- Ensure proper coding and documentation for maximum reimbursement.
- Monitor electronic and paper claims for errors and discrepancies.
- Review claims for compliance with payer guidelines and insurance requirements.
- Address denials, rejections, and appeals to resolve billing issues.
Payment Processing & Reconciliation
- Post payments received from insurance companies and patients.
- Identify and resolve payment discrepancies.
- Reconcile accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding balances.
- Collaborate with finance and accounting teams for accurate financial records.
- Provide reports on billing and reimbursement status.
- Manage collection of outstanding balances and escalate as needed.
Patient Billing & Financial Counseling
- Educate patients on insurance coverage and financial responsibilities.
- Assist patients in understanding medical bills and payment options.
- Coordinate financial assistance programs for eligible patients.
- Address patient billing inquiries and concerns with professionalism.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with healthcare laws, regulations, and privacy standards.
- Stay updated on changes in billing and coding guidelines.
- Document all billing interactions, activities, and resolutions.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in handling patient health information.
Additional Requirements

Qualifications:
- Highschool diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum experience (2 years) as a billing specialist, medical coder, or similar role in a healthcare setting required.
- Solid understanding of healthcare billing and reimbursement processes.
- Proficiency with electronic health record systems is a plus.
- A genuine passion for serving others and improving community health.
- Exceptional customer service skills required.
