Position General Summary:

This position is an Essential position at the facility to ensure efficient operations and patient care. Employees hired into an Essential position are expected to report to work for their scheduled shifts regardless of the environmental weather and road conditions that may exist.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

The nursing house supervisor will lead the nursing team and administrative staff to coordinate quality patient care to the standards set by their healthcare organization. The nursing house supervisor will perform the following responsibilities:

  • Communicating with patients, nurses, other healthcare professionals, family members, and visitors
  • Performs procedural nursing duties, such as Cardiac CTA medication administration, as needed
  • Ensuring quality healthcare for all patients
  • Guiding, monitoring, and advising nursing staff with clinical instructions
  • Developing a nursing schedule for adequate staffing, managing staffing needs and open shifts.
  • Supervising and supporting nursing staff
  • Reporting nursing activity to senior management
  • Communicating updated information and education to departments and staff
  • Assist with employee health and infection control for the facility.
  • Recruit and train new employees
  • Assists in supervising in-service education programs and follows up to evaluate effectiveness and to determine the need for revision of methods and materials.

Facility General Responsibilities:

  • Attend facility new hire orientation as scheduled by HR
  • Complete Department Orientation Initial Competency within 7 days of hire date
  • Complete Department Initial Skills Competency within 90 days of hire date
  • Follow facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures
  • Respect cultural and religious practices of patients from all backgrounds
  • Follow HIPAA regulations at all times
  • Be punctual and dependent for assigned shifts
  • Dress within the dress code requirements of the facility
  • Identifies all patients using at least two identifiers verbally (name and DOB), and by checking ID bracelet
  • Follows Hospital Wide and Department Specific policies and procedures
  • Must interact with physicians, guest, staff, and patients pleasantly, cooperatively, and effectively

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated high level of nursing skill and leadership ability.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Understanding of hospital policy
  • Sound understanding of Medical Surgical Unit and Emergency Department dynamics and work flow
  • Sound understanding of nursing practice and nationally accepted standards of patient care
  • Cognitive skills as related to the Medical Surgical Department and Emergency Department
  • Critical thinking and problem solving abilities
  • Good Communication skills with ability to communicate appropriately with patients of all ages
  • Ability to perform under stress and cope with difficult situations
  • Good time management and organizational skills to complete job tasks and deadlines

Position Requirements: Education, Work Experience, Licensure, Certifications.

  • Registered nursing license active in the state of Tennessee
  • A minimum of two years of experience in nursing
  • Basic Life Support must be obtained prior to working on the Medical Surgical Unit
  • ACLS and PALS must be obtained within 90 days of hire date

Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds. Moving, lifting, or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to bend, lean, and stoop without hindrance; requires a full range of body motion
  • Fine motor skills
  • Visual acuity; normal range of hearing
