Call Henderson County Public Schools' Transportation Department at (828) 697-4739 for the school bus driver training class schedule. You must attend all the sessions of the class. Complete the roadwork training (three days) which is scheduled by the bus driver trainer.
Position Summary
Performs semi-skilled work operating a school bus, transporting students to and from school, activities or events, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Transportation Planner.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and minimal experience with at least 6 months of driving experience as a licensed operator of a motor vehicle, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- General knowledge of operating a school bus; general knowledge of the geography of the District and the location of streets; skill in the safe operation of a school bus.
- Ability to read and write.
- Ability to detect malfunctioning equipment.
- Ability to assist children using patience and understanding.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, associates, students, parents and the general public.
