**Clinic receptionist/patient access associate positions are M-F. Hours may vary slightly depending on scheduling needs, but are typically between 7:30am and 5:30pm with staggered beginning and end times. No holidays or weekends.
Position General Summary:
This position is an Essential position at the facility to ensure efficient operations and patient care. Employees hired into an Essential position are expected to report to work for their scheduled shifts regardless of the environmental weather and road conditions that may exist.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
The receptionist/patient access associate is usually the first point of contact with the clinic and must present a professional appearance to all patients and guests. In addition, the responsibilities of the receptionist/patient access associate include (but are not limited to):
- Responsible for registering the patients, scheduling patients and handling telephone calls.
- Verifies insurance/TennCare coverage for patients.
- Responsible for chart retrieving, tracking and making new patient charts.
- Accepts and processes patient payments into the computer.
- Processes documents into the medical record by working incoming fax boxes.
- Performs other diverse duties as requested or required.
Facility General Responsibilities:
- Attend facility new hire orientation as scheduled by HR
- Complete Department Orientation Initial Competency within 7 days of hire date
- Complete Department Initial Skills Competency within 90 days of hire date
- Follow facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures
- Respect cultural and religious practices of patients from all backgrounds
- Follow HIPAA regulations at all times
- Be punctual and dependent for assigned shifts
- Dress within the dress code requirements of the facility
- Identifies all patients using at least two identifiers verbally (name and DOB), and by checking ID bracelet
- Follows Hospital Wide and Department Specific policies and procedures
- Must interact with physicians, guest, staff, and patients pleasantly, cooperatively, and effectively
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Good Communication skills with ability to communicate appropriately with all age groups
- Ability to navigate EMR, insurance portals, and other software or websites as required.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment.
Position Requirements: Education, Work Experience, Licensure, Certifications;
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Medical office experience preferred but not required.
Working Conditions:
The receptionist/patient access associate will spend most of the day sitting while interacting with patients from all economic and ethnic backgrounds. The receptionist/patient access associate must be able to see with corrective eyewear and must be able to hear clearly with assistance. The receptionist/patient access associate may be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases and may be in contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. The receptionist/patient access associate must be able to handle emergency or crisis situations, may occasionally be subject to irregular hours, and may be required to wear protective equipment as necessary.
