Position Summary
The Child Nutrition Director is responsible for the leadership and oversight of the district’s nutrition program, ensuring that all students are provided with nutritious, safe, and appealing meals. This position manages all aspects of food service operations, including compliance with federal and state nutrition standards, menu planning, food procurement, budgeting, staffing, and promoting a healthy school environment.
Qualification and Special Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Food Service Management, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in food service management, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. School Nutrition Association (SNA) certification or equivalent preferred.
Essential Functions
- Plans, organizes, and directs the district’s child nutrition program in compliance with federal, state, and local guidelines.
- Develops nutritious and cost-effective menus that meet the dietary needs of all students.
- Ensures compliance with the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program (SBP), and other applicable meal programs.
- Supervises, trains, and evaluates school nutrition staff across all sites.
- Coordinates professional development opportunities for cafeteria personnel.
- Manages the department’s annual budget, ensuring the effective use of financial resources.
- Monitors and controls food and labor costs to ensure program sustainability.
- Prepares and submits required financial and operational reports.
- Ensures compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations through regular inspections and staff training.
- Stays informed on current nutrition regulations and ensures district compliance.
- Collaborates with school and district administrators to promote healthy eating habits and integrate nutrition education into the curriculum.
- Communicates with parents, students, and stakeholders to support nutrition initiatives and gather feedback.
- Coordinates procurement of food items and kitchen supplies from local and regional vendors.
- Utilizes technology and software systems for inventory, meal tracking, and reporting.
- Prepares reports for district leadership and the Board of Education regarding program performance, participation, and goals.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent or designee.
