What are the responsibilities and job description for the State & Local Tax Director - $250k+Bonus position at Henderson Harbor Group?
Our client is looking to hire a State and Local Tax Director. This person will be responsible for overseeing both direct (Income/Franchise) and indirect (Sales/Use, VAT, GST) tax issues. The candidate should also possess a knowledge of tax accounting, including effective state income tax rate and uncertain tax positions.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate state income tax rate with global tax accounting team.
- Spearhead state and local income tax planning.
- Supervise sales and use tax compliance, tax audits (S/U, GST/VAT) and sales tax collection.
- Review and prepare SALT provision calculations.
- Review State and Local separate and unitary tax returns.
- Lead State & local aspects of transactions, including participating in due diligence.
- Work with M&A team on acquisitions
- Carry out SALT savings opportunities including reverse audits and credits/incentives/grants.
- Review uncertain tax positions with tax accounting team.
- Daft memos for audit positions and related financial statements.
- Manage planning opportunities with external advisors.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Tax, Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience; C.P.A. required.
- MST/JD Preferred
- 10 years of corporate tax experience; 5 years of progressive experience in public accounting
- Prior Big 4 experience preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage and develop a team of tax professionals.
- Strong capacity for identifying and implementing process improvements, including the use of new tax technology and automation tools.
