Main Purpose of the Role:
Promote and nurture the education of students in Science for grades K through 5 by planning and tailoring courses of study. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development of students. Proactively communicate with parents to keep them informed of student progress and potential concerns.
Key Responsibilities:

- Select and plan appropriate learning and teaching activities that are in alignment with Henderson International School standards and the Henderson Academic Plan.
- Conduct innovative, hands-on labs in support of curriculum during every class period.
- Exercise good classroom management focused on Responsive Classroom with the use of fair and consistent expectations of behavior along with appropriate natural consequences that are clearly articulated to the students.
- Encourage students to ask questions and to express their challenges and concerns, and to take responsibility for their own growth and learning.
- Know and use a wide range of assessment strategies consistent with course content and learning objectives.
- Responsible for organizing and facilitating the lower school science fair.
- Provide reports on student progress and maintain open communication in ensuring that these reports are accurate and constructive.
- Differentiate instruction and assessment to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Identify students who need additional academic assistance and be able to refer such students appropriately.
- Provide opportunities for student expression using spoken, written, creative and electronic forms of communication.
- Develop lessons that engage students in higher order thinking and problem-solving.
- Provide a safe and nurturing learning environment in which students can take intellectual risks.
- Provide a safe learning environment ensuring all safety protocols are followed, especially during lab time.
- Create a stimulating, challenging and organized learning environment with effective use of classroom displays.
- Collaborate with your division team to select cross-curricular lessons when appropriate.
- Attend and participate in staff development programs, faculty events and meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Create an atmosphere of mutual respect.
- Assist students in taking responsibility for their own actions and choices.
- Encourage students to set realistic goals and to use their time in a constructive and balanced manner.
- Attend all meetings as required.
- Foster a creative, flexible environment as an essential part of building a learning community.
- Use existing and emerging technologies as integral tools to support teaching and learning.
- Help students develop attitudes, habits of mind, and skills that will enable them to become lifelong learners, critical thinkers and problem solvers.
- Help to maintain a collaborative and supportive atmosphere for students and faculty.
- Attend functions in support of school and community.
- Responsible for successfully completing the standards based grading process.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualification:
Bachelor Degree, Required
Bachelor Degree in Science, Preferred
Master Degree, Preferred
State license/certification, preferred
Min. of 2 years in a high-achieving classroom environment.
Experience:
Demonstrated knowledge and experience developing and assessing curriculum using curriculum mapping software and adapting instruction to meet the individual needs of students.
