What are the responsibilities and job description for the Motorsports Performance Engineer position at Hendrick Motorsports?
This position requires an experienced, highly motivated performance engineer with expertise in testing concepts to optimize performance and then applying those solutions to car build and setup, race strategy, and simulation implementation. They will work closely with the race teams, engineering staff and GM Motorsports to advance methodology in these areas in search of performance.
Responsibilities
- Able to perform, plan, and analyze DIL (Driver in the Loop) simulation rig testing and data.
- Able to analyze track test data using Pi Cosworth software.
- Responsible for communicating complex, technical data to various levels of the organization.
- Develop test plans for and analyze data from Kinematic and Compliance, push-up, 7-post-test rigs and other lab resources to improve the performance of race cars.
- Apply simulation engineering principles and knowledge of racing performance to optimize systems and resolve system level issues.
- Develop and deploy tools to streamline the reporting of simulation and rig test data to the race teams as well as improve the execution of the tests.
- Coordinate efforts with and provide guidance to GM representatives for tool development and test execution via active involvement in meetings and interactions.
- Provide team recommendations summarizing the newest findings on a weekly basis.
- Able to analyze tire data and summarize actionable information to the teams as well as provide sensitivities to improve race and qualifying performance.
