Are you interested in a career in law enforcement or public safety? The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is seeking Sheriff's Detention Deputy Trainees to join the team! As a Trainee Detention Deputy, you will utilize your interpersonal communication skills to supervise detainees in a pretrial detention facility. You will also be responsible for maintaining security of the facility and ensuring the safety of all inmates, staff members, and visitors.

Location and hours :
This position is located at the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility at 401 South 4th Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55415 in downtown Minneapolis. The position requires working a flexible schedule including days, evenings, overnights, on-call, weekends, and holidays. Shifts will be 12 hours with work hours being either 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. or 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

This is a limited duration (temporary), full-time benefit earning position that may last up to two years. Next hiring date will be May 19, 2025.

In this position, you will :
- Successfully train and work on the job towards meeting the minimum qualifications for
- Fingerprint, secure, and release inmates.
- Conduct roll call and complete mandatory health and welfare checks on inmates.
- Search and inventory property.
- Conduct physical searches of inmates.
- Supervise custody of inmates and visitation; staff control rooms; conduct frequent security checks.
- Maintain records on inmates; prepare jail incident reports.
- Respond to emergency situations, including the need to use physical force and / or provide basic emergency medical care.
- Ensure the safety and security of the facility.
