Hennepin County's Information Technology (IT) department is seeking a GIS IT Supervisor to join the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team. This position will lead a team of GIS professionals responsible for managing the county’s ArcGIS Enterprise environments, development and deployment of geospatial solutions, and spatial database administration in support of enterprise analytics.
Location and hours:
This position is remote. Remote workers may be required to come on-site 0 to 12 days a year for work meetings, trainings, or for any other reasons that their supervisor may deem necessary (may include additional days for onboarding and new employee training). Supervisors will provide as much advance notice as practicable. Work hours will be Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Based on business needs of this position, hires must live in or relocate to Minnesota.

In This Position, You Will
- Develop and implement the GIS department's technology plan strategic objectives and initiatives in alignment with the organization's mission and guiding principles.
- Provide leadership and direction to the GIS Technical Services team, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Oversee deployment and configuration of ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise environments including Esri Portal, Datastore, and ArcGIS Server.
- Manage currently deployed ESRI product suite and all future releases of the Esri product lines.
- Manage the upgrade to the ArcGIS Enterprise systems and ArcGIS software patching for systems.
- Oversee deployment and configuration of on-premise and cloud environments (Azure).
- Maintain existing infrastructure to ensure uptime including monitoring, patching, and regular license updates.
- Prepare and manage GIS technology portion of budget.
- Work with various departments to support customer requirements and advance GIS initiatives.
- Manage the planning, execution, and completion of GIS projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
- Oversee project scoping, requirements gathering, scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management.
- Provide leadership to further department-based strategies that align with county goals, mission, and core values for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- One of the following:
- Eight years or more of experience as an information technology specialist within the last ten years; five of which were at the senior IT specialist level.
- Associate's degree in a related field (or approved certification in an information technology program) and six years or more of experience as an information technology specialist within the last eight years; three of which were at the senior IT specialist level.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, management information systems (MIS), or closely related field, and four years or more of experience as an information technology specialist within the last six years; two of which were at the senior IT specialist level.
- 5-7 years of experience in progressively responsible GIS roles, including leadership or project management.
- 5-7 years of GIS technology experience, specifically using ESRI's ArcGIS products.
- Budget and/or contract administration experience.
- Vendor relationship management experience.
- Experience or education around addressing racial equity, gender equity, LGBTQIA equity, neurodiversity equity, differing ability equity.
- Effective leadership, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Effective analytical, critical thinking, and organization skills with attention to detail.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to actively contribute to creating a workplace that values diversity and inclusion.
- Ability to engage in ongoing professional development related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
