Join the Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) as a Medical Laboratory Technician. This position will serve the Field Services (FS) with urinalysis collection for clients who are court ordered to submit to random drug testing and DNA samples. This position will also serve as a resource technician for all laboratory instrumentation including providing trouble shooting and consultation, interacting with the vendor/manufacturer and assisting with documentation of employee competency on the drug testing instruments.

This position is primarily located at the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487, and other satellite locations. The hours of the drug testing lab are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Tuesday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The work schedule will vary to meet these needs and will not to exceed 40 hours per week.

In this position, you will:
- Assisting laboratory supervisor with developing, implementing education materials and training for the new Medical Laboratory Assistants. Act as a primary resource for training new staff when hired.
- Perform routine clinical diagnostic laboratory tests in all sections of the laboratory.
- Report test results according to established protocol.
- Recognize abnormal or unusual test results, evaluate, and troubleshoot when indicated. Communicate such results and follow established procedures for reporting.
- Operate, conduct performance checks on, calibrate and maintain testing equipment/instrumentation.
- Perform and interpret quality control and monitor results.
- Obtain and process specimens used in clinical laboratory analysis.
- Record data in appropriate records and calibration data.
- Comply with safety regulations and work rules.
Need to have:
- One of the following:
- An associate degree or higher as a Medical Laboratory Technician from an accredited program.
- Completion of a comprehensive military laboratory science program.
- Certified or eligible for certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathology) or AAB (American Association of Bioanalysts) through written examination. Must complete certification within one year of hire.

- Experience:
- As a Medical Laboratory Technician.
- Developing and implementing education and training for new laboratory staff.
- Administering urinalysis for the purpose of drug testing.
- Performing routine clinical diagnostic tests in a laboratory setting and reporting results to an established protocol.
- Operating, calibrating, and maintaining laboratory equipment (i.e. specimen analyzer) in a laboratory setting.
- Working with chemically dependent clients.
- Handling highly confidential client medical information.
- Knowledge of:
- State of Minnesota Court Information System (MNCIS) computer system.
- Adult Field Services Court Services Tracking System (CSTS) computer system.
- Statewide Supervision System (S3).
- Bureau of Criminal Apprehension computer system.
- Ability to:
- Establish and maintain good relationships with clients, co-workers, and the public.
- Resolve problems and develop creative solutions.
- Prioritize work involving large caseloads and work independently with minimal direction.
- Work effectively with an increasingly diverse client population.
