What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Medical Planner Project Architect position at Hennepin County?
Hennepin County's Facility Services is seeking an experienced Senior Medical Planner Project Architect to manage the planning, programming and pre-design aspects of healthcare facility projects, and serve as an internal owners’ representative and subject matter expert on large, complex medical facility projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for engaging and leading a diverse, multi-disciplinary team of internal healthcare staff as well external professional consultants. This position will guide the planning efforts to create patient-centric healing environments to optimize healthcare delivery and advance the quality of healthcare services at Hennepin County and at Hennepin Healthcare System.
This position reports directly to the department’s division manager of Planning and Project Development.
This position is hybrid and will be performed on-site at various project locations within Hennepin County, and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

- Participate in long range facility and operational planning for inpatient and outpatient medical facilities.
- Manage consultants working on medical facility planning, space programming, pre-design and participate in medical equipment planning discussions.
- Manage the work of multiple consultants on medical facility projects from the initial proposal through pre-design phases.
- Participate in healthcare planning/programming client meetings or other project planning presentations.
- Translate planning concepts into understandable terms for project team members and departmental clients.
- Coordinate the development of capital and operating project budgets.
- Prepare project communication materials both verbally and through graphic representation and written reports briefs, and public engagement activities in support of medical facility related project development.
- Incorporate sustainable design solutions into projects.
- Support county initiatives including disparity reduction and climate action.
- Coordinate facility planning approvals with local authorities.
Need to have:
- A National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) accredited bachelor's degree or higher in architecture and four years or more post licensure experience as an Architect including professional experience in project development, preparation of contract documents, construction contract administration, and construction management.
- Must hold a current license from the MN Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (MN Board of AELSLAGID).

- As a Healthcare Architect that includes professional experience in project development, space programming, long range facility planning and schematic design.
- Making decisions within a healthcare planning or healthcare design and construction project where stakeholders had different motives and/or conflicting opinions.
- Working with government/public agency architectural projects.
- Collaborating on the development of capital and operating project budgets for facility related projects.
- LEAN Six Sigma certification.
- American College of Healthcare Architects (ACHA) certification.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of architecture and the ability to provide and/or oversee professional architectural and technical services.
- Knowledge of different design and construction contract delivery methods.
- Skill using Revit, Microsoft Office and Bluebeam.
- Ability to:
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants at all levels in the implementation and coordination of projects and programs.
- Make decisions in a timely manner, with varying levels of information under tight deadlines; shifting priorities with changing work demands.
- Communicate effectively and succinctly in a variety of settings and styles with management and other high-level officials.
- Manage change effectively, anticipating and adjusting for problems and roadblocks.
- Use resources effectively and efficiently.
- Be dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of both internal and external customers.

The Hennepin County Facility Services Department provides a full range of facility services for county programs and services. The department:
- Identifies capital needs, responds to and supports capital projects identified by line departments.
- Develops and manages projects to construct new buildings, refurbish existing buildings, and maintain infrastructure.
