The Facility Services department is seeking a Senior Professional Engineer to coordinate the development and review of mechanical/electrical systems, program requirements, project design, construction contract documents, and administer and monitor contracts to assure satisfaction of program and quality requirements.

Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be will be performed both on-site at various Hennepin County facilities and remote as job duties require. Facility Services offices are located at the Hennepin County Government Center. There are also workspaces in Minneapolis, Medina, Bloomington, Brooklyn Center, and Richfield. Work hours are Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with some flexibility. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

In This Position, You Will
- Plan, implement, manage, and serve as a subject matter expert with complex projects related to construction, renovation, space utilization, and preservation of engineering systems within Hennepin County facilities.
- Participate and recommend actions in engineering policy and procedural matters.
- Prepare project budgets and estimates, and schedule resources for their completion; assure all projects are on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all building codes and Hennepin County standards.
- Administer consultant contracts and monitor consultant performance as related to design and construction administration.
- Evaluate engineering project bids and make award recommendations.
- Coordinate the development and review of engineering systems, program requirements, project design, and construction contract documents.
- Incorporate sustainable guidelines throughout the various phases of assigned projects, help to accomplish Hennepin County Climate Action Plan goals and initiatives.
- Investigate and gather data for facility infrastructure projects; evaluate results and provide recommendations and technical support to work teams responsible for the repair, maintenance, and operations of Hennepin County facilities.
- Work alongside Hennepin County user groups and Facility Operations Managers to deliver successful projects.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in an engineering field appropriate to the position and five years or more of engineering experience.
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Registration or able to obtain a Minnesota license within six months of hire.
- Experience with:
- Project management.
- Researching, developing, managing, and evaluating contracts and budgets.
- Working with commercial heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC), fire protection, building automation systems, lighting control systems, and plumbing systems.
- Knowledge of:
- Policy and procedural matters, principles, and practices of building mechanical or electrical engineering.
- Construction documents and construction contract administration as applied to the principles of construction management.
- Commissioning, recommissioning, Minnesota B3 process.
- Ability to:
- Effectively oversee multiple projects/responsibilities concurrently and to respond to various managers and staff as requested.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships, demonstrate flexibility and resourcefulness in response to work demands, and provide functional design appropriate to the public sector.
- Practice fiscal responsibility and consider environmental impact when performing work duties.
- Work both independently and as part of a team as a subject matter expert.
- Effective verbal and written communication, organization, and engineering project management skills.
