SUMMARY: We are currently seeking a Pharmacy Tech to join our Whittier Clinic Community Pharmacy team. This position is full-time with benefits, 80 hours per pay period, day/evening shift, and every 4th weekend. Bilingual required: English and Spanish. A language test will be given to the final candidate(s) and a passing score will be required before an offer is made. $5000 Sign-On Bonus A sign-on bonus is available for eligible external candidates. Current employees and former employees (rehired within 12 months) are not eligible. One year work commitment required. Purpose of this position: Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, performs a variety of technical and clerical duties allowable by law, while maintaining a favorable image of the pharmacy within the hospital and in the community RESPONSIBILITIES: - Answers phones for the pharmacy department and directs calls to appropriate personnel - Maintains knowledge of the Hospital Credit and Collection Policy and other related policies - Prepackages, prepares, labels, and hands out prescriptions after they are checked by a registered pharmacist - Maintains cash registers, credit card machines, and reporting for cash transactions - Prepares daily deposits for the cashier’s office - Bills and credits patient medications - Stocks inventory in Pharmacy - Routinely checks and removes outdated and expired medications - Delivers medications to patient care and ancillary areas and picks up new orders as scheduled - Files prescriptions and reports - Maintains the pharmacy in a clean and organized fashion - Enters outpatient prescriptions - Obtains and records patient drug histories - Triages orders, determines priorities, processes orders, and notifies the pharmacist as appropriate - Performs various calculations to determine the correct dose using weight - Identifies the appropriate product to process based on the prescription order - Triages insurance rejections and initiates prior authorization claims as needed - Uses appropriate pharmaceutical-medical terms, abbreviations, and symbols - Maintains a working knowledge of general chemical and physical properties of drugs - Compounding medications as per Minnesota Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations - Is responsible for safe and careful handling of chemotherapeutic medications - Assists with other duties as assigned but only after appropriate training

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualifications: - High School Diploma or GE Preferred Qualifications: - Computer skills - Knowledge of Pharmacy computer systems - Insurance and Billing Experience - Experience working with specialty medications in a health system setting - Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program or a 240-hour employer-based Technician training Program or 1,000 hours of Pharmacy experienc Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities: - Ability to communicate with other employees and public - Possesses strong interpersonal skills, is a team player, and promotes positive team environment - Excellent customer service skills - Demonstrates good decision making skills, problem solving techniques, and possesses the ability to prioritize multiple tasks - Ability to use a computer and associated programs - Ability to understand oral and written instructions - Ability to learn and apply pharmacy procedures and interpret prescriptions - Ability to apply basic math skills - Some skill in record keeping - Ability to use computer effectively License/Certifications: - Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with MN State Board - PTCB or ExCPT pharmacy tech certification within 1 year of date of hire, paid for by employee -OR- - Current Intern License with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy
